Sign up
Create an account with your email or your Google account. You’ll need to confirm your email address.

Set up your profile
Add the services you offer, your prices, your area and your photos.

Add your certificates, if your trade needs them
Regulated work, such as electrical, plumbing, gas, fire protection, security installations, locksmith work and pest control, needs a registration or certificate that we review before you can take those jobs. The app shows you what’s needed for each service you pick. Most other trades go live as soon as setup is done.

So you can request payouts once you’ve earned.

Turn on your availability and requests come to you in the app.
What it costs
Free to join. 8% of completed jobs.
There’s no sign-up fee and no monthly fee. OnStandby takes 8% of each completed job payment. It’s deducted before you’re paid.
The fee is the same for everyone. There are no ads and you can’t pay for a better spot.
How customers find you
Search results are ordered by distance, availability, ratings and reliability. Nothing else counts, and nobody can pay to move up.
Getting paid
Callout fees and deposits
If you charge a callout fee or ask for a deposit, the customer pays it up front through the app.
The main payment goes into escrow
The customer’s main job payment is held by TradeSafe, a South African escrow service. It’s released to your OnStandby earnings when the customer confirms the work, or 24 hours after you mark the job complete if they don’t respond and haven’t raised a dispute.
Payouts
Request a payout and it’s paid to your bank account by EFT. Payout times depend on the banks.

Can I turn down a request?
Yes. You choose which requests to accept.
Which trades need a certificate?
Regulated work, such as electrical, plumbing, gas, fire protection, security installations, locksmith work and pest control. When you choose a service, the app shows what’s required for it. Other trades don’t need one to go live.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The web app works in your phone’s browser and can be added to your home screen. See Get the app.
